DSE ends the year in green

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the premier bourse of the country, ended the last week positively with lower turnover while small-cap companies ruled the gainers’ list.
The daily average turnover at the DSE was Tk 387.71 crore, a drop by 11.35 percent, while last week’s average turnover was Tk 437.36 crore.
The DSE benchmark index, DSEX gained 21.32 points or 0.46 percent to close at 4,629.64 points in the week. DSEX closed the previous week at 4,608.32 points, gaining 87.45 points or 1.93 percent.
DS30, the blue chip index at the DSE, also gained 3.15 points or 0.18 percent to close at 1,750.59 points on the previous week.
The DSEX Shariah Index, DSES closed the week at 1107.12 points slightly gaining 0.64 points or 0.06 percent.
Of the 326 issues traded at the DSE last week, 137 gained, 153 suffered loss and 36 remained unchanged.
LankaBangla Securities, analysing last week’s capital market situation, said, “This week, the index gained 21.3 points though average daily turnover decreased by 11.4 percent to Tk 387.72.”
“Top gainers of the week mostly consist of small-cap companies; so are the top losers of the week”, the leading stockbroker added.
The merchant bank also said, “The market-cap leaders have mixed performance during the week. Though Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and Titas Gas declined by 3.7 percent and 3.5 percent respectively, British American Tobacco Bangladesh and Olympic increased by 5.1 percent and 3.6 percent respectively.”
Among the major gaining sectors, Food & Allied gained 4.4 percent followed by Engineering 1.7 percent and Pharmaceuticals 0.1 percent.
The major losing sectors were Mutual Fund and Pharmaceuticals with 4.6 percent and 3.9 percent loss respectively.
