Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will launch a clean city campaign on September 1, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said this on Monday while inaugurating four modern toilets in the capital city.
“A citywide cleanliness campaign will start from September 1, and we shall clean the Kurbani wastes within 48 hours (of the Kurbani)”, the mayor said
DSCC with support from WaterAid Bangladesh opened four public toilets at Bahadur Shah Park, Sayedabad Bus Terminal and Municipality Filling Station in the city.
These visually stunning, female and disabled friendly public toilets at busy places of the city are expected to offer users with comfort and convenience.
These modern toilets will be equipped with facilities including separate chamber for male and female, locker, hand washing point, shower, safe drinking water facility, 24×7 electricity, CCTV camera, professional cleaners and female caretakers.
“We will develop a planned public sanitation system in city for all inhabitants of Dhaka, especially for pedestrians, commuters and women and particularly for those who pass a long time in city’s streets due to heavy traffic” Sayeed Khokon said.
He said that the DSCC is committed to build 47 more modern and women friendly public toilets in densely populated areas of the city.
Country Director WaterAid Bangladesh Dr Md Khairul Islam said the city corporation, WaterAid and H&M Foundation have jointly brought the facility for the commuters. The maintenance will be ensured under the public leaders.
This is in continuation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed among Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka WASA and WaterAid Bangladesh to ensure environmental health by proper use of public toilets.
WaterAid Bangladesh has rebuilt a number of public toilets in different strategic locations of Dhaka with support of Dhaka North and South City Corporation under the banner of project SUNRISE funded by H&M Foundation.
