Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh vowed that he would turn the DSCC into a freedom fighters-friendly one.
He made the remark while speaking at a function virtually joining from his Nagar Bhaban office on Sunday, a DSCC press release said.
The meeting was arranged at the seminar room of Basabo Shaheed Alauddin Park in the city, marking the 50 years of the surrender of arms of 146 guerrilla freedom fighters to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Basabo Maidan.
Speaking as the chief guest, Taposh said: “Until we have the last drop of blood – our freedom fighters and their next generation – we will continue to work towards building Sonar Bangla”.
“As a child of yours, I am always committed to remaining beside you (freedom fighters and their family members) and to establishing Dhaka South City Corporation as a freedom fighters-friendly one,” he added. A total of 111 guerrilla heroic freedom fighters and family members of five martyrs were accorded reception at the function.
Former acting secretary general of Muktijoddha Sangsad Shafiqul Bahar Majumder, among others, spoke at the function with freedom fighter commander MA Rashid in the chair.
Valiant freedom fighter Md Shamsuzzaman Babul moderated it.
