Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has provided jobs, financial support and allocated shops to 31 families who were affected by the deadly fire incident in Chawkbazar’s Churihatta area of Old Dhaka just a year back.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon provided the family members of the fire victims with the compensation at a programme at the DSCC auditorium on Thursday.
The Mayor said, “DSCC has taken various steps so that the family members of Churihatta fire victims can lead a decent life.”
“21 relatives of the fire victims have been given jobs in different posts of the City Corporations while shops allocated for two families, while four families have been given Tk 2 lakh each as financial assistance,” he said.
On February 20 last year, a fire broke out in Wahed Mansion, a four-storey building at Churihatta intersection around 10pm.The Fire Service doused the blaze after around 14 hours of frantic efforts.
They also recovered 67 charred bodies and sent those to the DMCH morgue. Over 50 people also sustained burn injuries in the fire and four of them died later.
