DSCC orders closing shops, restaurants, tea stalls

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) authorities on Sunday directed to close all restaurants, hotels, tea stalls, bakery, confessionary, and roadside food carts following growing concern over a potential coronavirus outbreak in the country.
These establishments will remain closed until further notice, DSCC said in a mass notification.
However, hospitals, clinics, primary health service, medical stores, ATM booths, fruits stores, mobile recharge shops, and kitchen markets will remain open as usual.
Legal action will be taken against anyone violating the directive, the notification said.
Bangladesh on Saturday announced the second coronavirus death and detection of four new patients, raising the number of such cases in the country to 24. The country reported its first death from coronavirus on March 18.
Meanwhile, the number of globally confirmed coronavirus casese rose to more than 300,000 on Sunday. So far, The virus has claimed13,068 lives-a mortality rate of 12 percent, according to Worldometer.
Meanwhile, a councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has directed the closure of all kinds of food shops including restaurants and bakeries under ward number 57 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The restriction will be effective until further notice, a public notice issued by ward councilor Haji M Saidul Islam Madbar and Kamrangirchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge ABM Mashiur Rahman said on Sunday.
Legal action will be taken against those who will disobey this instruction, added the notice.
Besides, the local administration has proposed a lockdown in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus as two foreign returnees tested positive.
The upazila administration made the announcement on Sunday following an information that two US-returnees, who have tested positive for coronavirus, attended a wedding programme, said Sadullapur UNO Md Nobinewaz.
According to the UNO, the two infected people attended a wedding in the area. Moreover, a majority of the guests at the wedding also went to vote in the Gaibandha-3 by-polls on Mar 21 due to which the virus is feared to spread fast in the area.
Previously on Mar 19, Gaibandha’s Shibchar Upazila was put under lockdown in a move to cotrol the spread of the virus.
The fast spreading coronavirus has so far killed two and infected 27 in Bangladesh.
