The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the person behind the wheel of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) garbage truck that hit and killed a senior citizen.
Md Morshed Alam, 28, was arrested in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area on Thursday night, said RAB 10 Senior Assistant Director Enayet Kabir.
RAB is looking into whether Alam was the assigned driver of the truck, he said, adding that
further information would be disclosed later. Sixty-two-year-old Swapan Kumar Sarkar died on the spot after being hit by the DSCC garbage truck in Dhaka’s Wari area on Thursday.
Earlier, Naeem Hasan, a student of Notre Dame College, was killed in Gulistan on November 24 by a garbage truck of the DSCC, while Ahsan Kabir Khan, 45, was killed by a garbage truck of the DNCC at Panthapath on November 25.
Following their deaths, students started a movement demanding safe roads in the capital, proposing 11 points to the government.
