The former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Saturday alleged that present mayor of the city corporation Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh had transferred hundreds of crores of taka fund of DSCC to his Modhumoti Bank Limited.
‘Taposh has lost his credibility as the mayor of Dhaka south city as he has transferred hundreds of crores of corporation’s fund to his Modhumoti Bank. He is taking profit from the deposit. On the other hand, the DNCC failed to pay monthly salaries of its poor staff for lack of fund,” he said at a protest programme held in front of the High Court in Dhaka.
The programme was organised by the victim shop owners of DSCC markets. Khokon said that Taposh was doing corruption as per the City Corporation Act 2009.
He asked the incumbent mayor to stop his own corruption before taking actions against other junior officials of DSCC.
On December 8, DSCC started eviction drive against illegal shops after it identified nearly 3,500 shops in 21 markets, which were extended or built illegally, and allocated to traders during the tenure of the immediate past mayor, Sayeed Khokon.
Mobile courts have already demolished several hundred shops at Sundarbans Market and Fulbaria Super Market.
DSCC officials said that the shops, including permanently allocated shops, were built violating original designs of the markets.
Traders, protesting at the drives, said that Sayeed Khokon took huge amount of money from them to allocate the shops.
Sayeed Khokon admitted that he had taken money legally from the trader.
He said that the shops were not illegal as a DSCC board endorsed the shops modifying the designs and plans of the markets.
