About 8,000 cleaners from Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations are in serious risk of infection of coronavirus as they are doing their daily jobs without having sanitizers, masks, and protective equipment.
DSCC officials said they have about 3000 cleaners, besides, DNCC have about 4,500 cleaners are involved to clean city’s garbage, waste everyday without sufficient safet gears.
Those cleaners are in this work under different area-based voluntary organizations under city corporations approval.
When visiting in different areas like, Jatrabari, Syedabad, Doyagonj, Gandaria, Jurain, Wari, Gulistan and other areas it has found that some of the cleaners are using masks but have no gloves in their hands.
Contacted, Commodore M Monzur Hossain, the Chief Waste Management official of DNCC, said though the cleaners do not work directly under the city corporation, they asked the voluntary organizations who engage the cleaners to ensure their safety gears.
Air Commodore Md Zahid Hossain, the Chief Waste Management officer of DSCC also said the same.
