Dhaka South city Corporation (DSCC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shah Mohammad Emdadul Haque entered Wari in Old Dhaka with a convoy on Saturday breaching the lockdown rules.
He, however, told reporters that everything is going well in the area as it was put under lockdown today to contain coronavirus.
Traders in the area said the lockdown has put them in trouble as their business establishments in the red zone have been closed down.
The DSCC put Wari, identified as a red zone for coronavirus, was put under a 21-day lockdown on Saturday to tackle the worsening Covid-19 situation.
The lockdown was enforced at 6am and it will remain in force until July 25.
Everything except drug stores and shops of essential goods in the area have been shut.
Barricades have been put on 15 out of 17 roads while police and DSCC volunteers are monitoring two other roads.
No one is being allowed to enter or come out of the area without any emergency need. However, Emdadul Haque entered the area with a convoy of 8-10 vehicles violating the lockdown rules, reports Somoy TV English Desk.
Later, he admitted his fault, and said they will strictly follow the rules in the days to come.
Law enforcers were seen playing an active role since morning, and they were not allowing anyone to enter or leave the area without national ID cards and any valid reason.
Domestic helps were also barred from entering the area.
Over one lakh people live in the Wari red zone area where 46 people tested positive for coronavirus.
