Dry fish collection season at Dubla Fishermen Village ends

The five months long dry fish collection season that started from October last week at Dubla Fishermen Village consists of a number islands in Sundarbans on the bank of the Bay of Bengal under Sharankhol Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) finally ended on Thursday. By this time thousand of fishermen and fish traders after catching fish from the Bay of Bengal for long five months and after drying the same many of them already left Dubla Fishermen village and the rest will leave the place (Dublarchar) within Thursday evening.
 It is learnt from a source of the forest department that the department earned a record number of revenue from this sector in the financial year of 2021-2022. The source added, every year thousand of fishermen from adjacent district assemble at Dubla Fishermen village on the last week of October and start to catch fish from the sea and dry there for long five months. This Dubla Fishermen Village consists of a number of islands such as Alorkol, Shelarchar, Majherkella and Narikelbaria. Fishermen stay at all those 4 islands for the period and prepare dry fish, This year more than ten thousand fishermen and fish traders assembled there from the various places. A number of fishermen like Billa; Shikdar of Nariklelbaris, Motasim Farazi of Alorkol, Pnkaj Chandra of Majherkella and Eunus Fakir of the same who hail from the different palaces told the newsmen, we earned a lot of money from fish dry business.
 Prholad Chandra Roy, Officer-in-charge of forest outpost of patrol team of Dubla Fishermen Village told, five month long fish drying season at Dubla was ended and majority fishermen already returned home. He added, those who are still staying here they will leave the Fishermen Village within 31st March. This year the forest department earned record number revenue from this sector. The target was Tk.3 crores 22 lakh. But the department earned a sum of Tk.4 crores 18 lakh 59 thousand 9 hundred 54 (till March 29). In the last financial year (2020-2021) the department earned a sum of Tk.3.22 cros from this sector.
Farmer electrocuted in Fakirhat paddy field
A farmer named Robiul Morol of village Pagla Uttarpara under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when he tried to start a power pump run with electricity in order to supply water in his paddy field in the village at Saturday night (at 8 pm), according to delayed report received here.
It is learnt from the family-members and the locals that at the night the ill-fated farmer went to his paddy field to supply the water in the paddy field and unfortunately as soon as he tried to start the power pump he was, somehow, caught with an open electricity live wire and died instantly. He was the son of one Manik Morol of the village Pagla-Uttarpara.
When contacted Muhammad Alimuzzaman, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Model PS admitted the fact and told, in this connection a UD case was lodged with the PS.
