‘Drug trader’ killed in gunfight

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Moulvipara in Teknaf upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Bahadur, 32, a listed drug trader of the Home Ministry and son of Khalil Ahmed of Choto Habirpara in the area.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police arrested Yusuf sometime on Thursday night. Later, police along with Yusuf conducted a drive in the area to arrest his associates.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals, who had taken
position in the area, opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.
At one stage, Yusuf was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. The body was sent to local hospital morgue. Five policemen were injured during the gnfight.
Yusuf was wanted in twelve cases, said police.
Police also recovered 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, ten firearms and 24 cartridges from the spot.
