A top drug trader accused in 19 cases, was killed while a member of RAB injured in an gunfight at Khilkhet of the city early Tuesday.
During the raid, around 1,950 pieces of Yaba pills, four shooter-guns and 34 cartridges were also recovered from the spot.
The incident occurred in Barua area under Khilkhet around 3 am.
The deceased identified as top yaba trader Anwar Hossain, 34, was an accused in 18 drug-related cases and one rape case.
ASP Kamruzzaman, Company Commander of RAB-1, confirmed the news to the media, tipped off that a gang of drug peddlers gathered in the area, a RAB team rushed there around 3am. Sensing the presence of RAB, the drug peddlers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back in self-defence, Commander added.
Later, Anwar Hossain’s body was recovered from the spot. 1,950 pieces of Yaba pills, four shooter-guns and 34 cartridges wre also recovered from the scene, Kamruzzaman said.
