‘Drug trader’ killed in Chandpur gunfight

A suspected drug trader was killed and another injured in separate gunfights in Chandpur and Rajshahi districts early Thursday.
In Chandpur, an unidentified man, believed to be a drug trader, was killed in a reported gun battle with police at Sikutiya- Shoreshakdhal in Shahrasti upazila in the early hours. Tipped off, a team of police

 conducted a drive in the area around 3:15 am, said Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Shahrasti Model Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting police to take action in self-defence. After the brief gunfight, the body of the unidentified drug trader, aged around 30, was found on the spot.
Besides, one pipe gun, six bullets and 83 Yaba tablets were recovered. In Rajshahi, Manik, 30, a suspected drug trader and son of Shahab Uddin of Natun Para in Charghat upazila, sustained bullet injuries in a reported gunfight with police at Muktarpur village in the early morning.
On a tip-off that a group of drug traders gathered in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 2:45 am, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Charghat Police Station.
