During an anti-crime operation, Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) arrested an alleged drug-peddler with one kilogram of heroin in the city last night.
On a tip-off, a team of the DB conducted a sudden raid in city hat area under Shahmukhdum Police Station and seized a stone-laden truck around 10.30 pm. Subsequently, the team members seized the contraband heroin after searching the truck.
They also arrested the truck driver Shahidul Islam, 33, on charges of carrying the heroin.
Addressing an instant press conference at his office conference hall today, RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique gave a description on the tactics of heroin-carrying through the stone-laden trucks.
He said driver Islam was carrying the heroin owned by one Muhammad Rony, 35, to Fatikchhari in Chattaram.
He told the journalists that Shahidul Islam was involved in carrying heroin from Chapainawabganj to different parts of the country including capital Dhaka and Chattagram in collaboration with some of the notorious drug-smugglers for long.
Efforts are underway to arrest Rony, he added.
Meanwhile, a case was recorded with Shahmukhdum Police Station in this connection and the arrested person with the seized truck and drugs was handed over to police.
