A father was murdered publicly by his drug addict eldest son at Phulbari Bazar under Phulbari upazila of the district yesterday night.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem Sarder, 56, a businessman of Phulbari upazila.
Eyewitnesses and family sources said Abul Kashem Sarder was attacked by his drug addict son Shahinur Rahman Sajib Sarder, 27, at Phulbari Bazar when he was returning home from his business establishment by a motorbike.
Sajib suddenly stopped his father’s motorcycle and indiscriminately hit him on the head and other parts of the body with a sharp weapon.
The locals recovered blood soaked Abul Kashem from the spot in a critical condition and he died on way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

The local people caught red handed the killer son, roughed up him and then handed Sajib over to the police.
Sharifuzzaman Rajiv, the second son of the victim, filed a murder case with Phulbari thana in this connection, police said.
