Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Thursday expressed concern over the arrest of Dr Kanak Sarwar, former special correspondent of private television channel ETV.
In a statement, DRU president Sakhawat Hossain Badsha and general secretary Elias Hossain called for ensuring justice for Sarwar, also a member of the journalist body, and not harassing him unnecessarily, said a press release.
Observing that the country’s constitution safeguards justice of every citizen, the DRU leaders said they believe that the
government will consider the case of Sarwar from a humanitarian ground for the sake of ensuring free mass media, the statement added.
They also sought intervention of the Prime Minister, the Information Minister and the State Minister for Home Affairs in this regard.
