The annual sports festival of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) was formally inaugurated in the city on Thursday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder inaugurated the sports meet on the DRU premises releasing colourful balloons.
Speaking on the occasion, Biren Sikder expressed his frustration over the crisis prevailing in the Hockey Federation, saying, “I’ll take necessary steps in the next week to resolve the crisis.”
Some premier division hockey clubs are boycotting the league for two years demanding the resignation of federation’s elected general secretary Khawja Rahmatullah.
DRU President Shakawat Hossain Badsha presided over the inaugural function which was addressed, among others, by DRU general secretary Ilias Hossain and its sports secretary Badruk Alam Khokon.
Some 300 reporters are expected to compete in the eleven sports beginning on Saturday (Aug 29) through chess competition.
