The Walton-DRU Media Cup Six a Side Football Tournament sponsored by Walton began on Sunday at Shaheed Captain M Monsur Ali Handball Stadium in the city.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan inaugurated the competition as the chief guest while Walton sports and welfare division chief FM Iqbal Bin Anwar was present as special guest.
DRU president Jamal Uddin presided over the opening ceremony of the meet.
On the first day of the opening day’s fixture, Radio Today, Jamuna TV, Samakal, Janakantha, BSS, Gtv and Rtv won their matches after beating their respective rivals. Meanwhile, ATN News and BD News 24.com got walkover against their respective opponents.
A total of 34 print and electronic media houses of the country will take part in the tournament on a knock-out basis and it will be organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) after a gap of six years. The final will take place on September 1.
The champion team will receive Taka 40,000 while the runners-up team will have Taka 20,000 as cash prize and trophy.
