UNB, Dhaka :
Election to the executive committee of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) will be held on Thursday.
The voting will begin at 9am and continue till 5pm without any break.
Forty candidates are there in the election race against 21 posts, but candidates in five posts have already been elected uncontested.
Three candidates are running for the DRU president post, while five for its general secretary post.
Saiful Islam, Abu Darda Jubair and
Rafiqul Islam Azad are contesting the election for the president post, while Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, incumbent general secretary Mursalin Nomani, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Sheikh Muhammad Jamal Hossain and Rezaul Karim for the general secretary post.
The five candidates who have already been elected unopposed are Galman Shafi (vice president), Manik Muntasir (treasurer), Jharna Moni (women affairs secretary), Aminul Haque (publicity and publication secretary) and Mizan Chowdhury (cultural affairs secretary).
Moin Uddin Khan, Amoresh Ray, Halim Mohammad and Mehdi Azad Masum are running for the post of joint secretary, while Nurul Islam Hasib, Afzal Bari and SM Gausul Azam Bipu for organising secretary, Zehad Hossain Chowdhury and Morsalin Ahmed for office secretary, Ahmed Siraj and Mohsin Hossain for training and research secretary, Arafat Daria and Maksuda Lisa for sports secretary, Saiful Islam Montu and Kamal Uddin Suman for entertainment secretary, and Emdadul Haque Khan and Kawsar Azam for welfare secretary.
Besides, 10 candidates are vying for seven executive member posts.
