Drought-tolerant and high-yielding wheat varieties, especially Barigom-30, have started gaining so much popularity among the farmers of Rajshahi region.
The farmers have been showing their interests a lot to cultivate this variety as they are getting more yields into short-duration.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi regional wheat research center has taken several initiatives including observation of field day to popularise the new varieties of wheat among the growers.
Scientists of Rajshahi regional wheat research center have innovated BARIGOM-30, a short-duration wheat variety that opens up a door of massive prospects for food security along with facing the adverse impact of climate change.
Besides, the high yielding protein-rich wheat (BARIGOM-30) can prevent blast disease itself easily and due to its shorter height, it is able to protect the natural disasters. Executive chairman of Bangladesh agriculture council Dr. Kabir Iqramul Haq, said that the growers are expecting good profits through the high-yielding wheat variety in this region this year. Bangladesh agriculture council has been providing advice and necessary supports to the farmers always to popularise and cultivate the variety of wheat.
