Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo admitted that he is perplexed by the poor catching and fielding of his charges in the second T20I against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh fielders missed four catches in the last game, two of was against Usman Ghani, who made 47 and shared 99-run with Hazratullah Zazai to snatch the game from Bangladesh.
“Dropping nine catches in five games is unheard of. It is unbelievable when you think about it. If we knew what [the problem] was, we probably wouldn’t be doing it. Whether it is concentration, confidence or dealing with pressure, I am not 100% sure. We just have to make sure we try to improve.,” said Domingo.
“We make too many mistakes in the field that have cost us. It cost us in the World Cup, here, Test matches. Just too many dropped catches. You can do all the drills in practice but the players have to catch the balls in the games. That is the bottom line.”,” he added.
Bangladesh will next visit South Africa for ODIs and Test series, however, they won’t play any T20s and will have fewer opportunities left to plug the gaps of the T20I side before the next World Cup begins in October.
