The driver of a Coca-Cola company named Tofazzal Hossain was beaten to death in Narayanganj on Thursday for not giving a bottle of coke free.
The incident took place at around 5:30 pm in the area of Balurmath, Chashara in the city. Police arrested a youth named Shahjahan in the incident.
However, the main accused youth Suman has been absconding since the incident.
The deceased Tofazzal Hossain, 50, son of Moslem Chowdhury, is a resident of Khanpur railway area. For the past one year, he has been a driver for the Coca-Cola Company’s distributor branch in Narayanganj.
The sales representative of the Coca-Cola Company, who was with Tofazzal, said, they entered the Balurmath area with a cover van for supplying goods in different areas on Thursday. At this time, the Summon wants to drink a bottle of Coca-Cola free. As Tofazzal did not agree to it, Sumon and Shahjahan, together with a Coca-Cola bottle beat him and injured him.
The due also fled the scene.
Later, locals took Tofazzal to a hospital at Khanpur in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
On receiving the news, the Sadar Model Police Station recovered the body and sent it to Sadar General Hospital for autopsy.
Inspector (Investigation) of the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, Golam Mostafa, said that the body of the victim bore the marks of injuries. While one of the accused has been arrested, the main accused Suman is still on the run.
An attempt is underway to arrest him. A case is under process in this regard.
