The Market Monitoring Cell of Chittagong District Administration in a bid to control the price hike during the holy month of Ramadan visited two kitchen markets in the port city and fined 10 shops Tk 49 thousand on different grounds on Sunday.
Separate teams of the Market Monitoring Cell visited the CDA Karnaphuli market in Agrabad and Colonel Hat and alerted the traders of kitchen markets not to sell the essentials at excessive price.
The teams fined a total of 10 shops Tk 49 thousand for not showing price list, for weight rigging, realizing excessive prices and for not using BSTI approved weight scales.
Executive magistrates Abdus Samad Sikdar and Shanta Rahman led the monitoring teams.
The Market Monitoring Cell also called upon the traders to sell the essentials as per the price fixed at a meeting of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong and Merchant Associations leaders.
Executive magistrate Abdus Samad Sikdar said the market monitoring cell is continuing drives in different markets to enforce the fixed price of essentials for buyers of the port city.
CMCCI opens fair price outlet : Chittagong Metropoli-tan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) has opened the fair price outlets at the KDS premises at Oxygen point to control the price hike during the holy month of Ramadan.
CMCCI president Alhaj Khalilur Rahman inaugurated the fair price outlet as chief guest. Addressing the function, Khalilur Rahman said, “Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. We requested all businessmen not to hike the prices during Ramadan.”
Among others, Vice- President of CMCCI A M Mahabub Chowdhury, Director Mohammad Anisujjaman Bhuiyan, Jashim Uddin Chowdhury and leaders of CMCCCI were present at that time. CMCCCI is selling rice at Tk 3o per kg, sugar Tk 55 per kg, oil Tk 90 per liter.
