Staff Reporter :The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Monday has started a countrywide drive against unfit vehicles across the country to make the roads safe.As part of drive, the authorities of BRTA have also set up mobile courts in different parts of the capital. The mobile courts filed 92 cases against the owners and drivers of the vehicles without having fitness certificates and driving licenses. A substantial number of the 21,5140 registered vehicles, including buses and trucks, which ply on roads in the capital and on highways, do not possess fitness certificates. The BRTA statistics show that out of the 215,140 automobiles excepting motorbikes, 974735 of them requires the fitness certificates. But 33 percent of them are unfit, a BRTA internal audit shows.In Dhaka city, 93604 out of 835,812 vehicles, mostly buses and trucks are running in the ‘name of Allah’ or without any proper fitness.
