Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Benazir Ahmed on Saturday said, the drive against chemical godowns and factories in Old Dhaka will not hamper trading anyway.
“Our intention is not to put businesspersons in difficult situation,” said Benazir Ahmed during a view-exchange meeting with businesspersons of Old Dhaka regarding to the relocation of chemicals, plastic and other flammable objects from residential area in Old Dhaka.
The meeting was arranged by RAB-10 at Old Jail Convention Hall in the city’s Bakshi Bazar area on Saturday morning.
Comparing chemical factories with “ticking time bombs”, the RAB DG said “I thank those of you, who are shifting their from chemical factories in Old Dhaka.”
Some unscrupulous businessmen stored the chemicals in relatives’ houses in different residential areas of the city, he said quoting detective reports.
No expired chemicals will be allowed to carry, store and sell by considering the safety issue, the RAB DG said.
“We do not want another incident like Nimtoli and Chawkbazar,” Benazir said.
Meanwhile, President of the Dhaka South City Businessperson Oikkya Parishad Abdus Salam at the meeting demanded that the taskforce should discontinue the drive against chemicals in Old Dhaka.
“Businesspersons live in constant fear,” Abdus Salam said claiming that those chemicals which have been identified as flammable have already been moved.
