by Mustak Ahmed :
Dristikon is the first collection of poems by Mustak Ahmed. 54 poems written in his early stage have been compiled.
Normally in early stage a poet usually writes verses on love, love of nature, some childlike affairs with say, classmate, neighbor-mate etc. And some other pieces he writes praising the Creator. Mainly two types poems are compiled here : 1. praising the Creator Allah and 2. Love poem. And the third type verse is impliedly seen which reveals Sufism. In his poem ‘King’ (Raja),where the poet praises the Supremacy of the Creator, he says, “The original King calls and says/, Come and learn your actual identity/, What is your actual identity?/ Who was you, say it to me?/Says the subject : I don’t know/, ‘Your answer is a perfect one’ /, ‘I’m happy, listening that’, says the King.” (Page-32). These types of poems where praises of the Creator are presented can be seen in the poems he arranged in the first part of this collection.
In the Second part Mustak Ahmed has presented some innocent and pleasant love verses which he cultivated in his education life. In the poem ‘Krishnokoli’ the poet says, “A black shadow prevails on your beauty/, I didn’t hesitate anymore/, Creating a nest and keeping therein her I follow her movement/, And indicate her every passion in my every rhythm.” (Page-83). This type of love poems is available throughout the book.
Sufism plays an important role in some poems. In his poem ‘Robir Prova’ (Light of the Sun) he writes: On the horizon the sun will rise/, Twelve dervishes sat earlier and are taking many preparations/To welcome him…. Suddenly one saint came./He asked, what arrangements are going on?/They narrated their thinking of themselves respectively/The saint made a laughter/, He said, can you realize the actual light of the sun comes from where?’ (Page-7).
An enchanting flavor runs through the poems. Poetry has an intrinsic value which goes way ahead without any hindrance in reading. Though sometimes some poems are not composed in the strict form of rhythmic style, the arrangement of the words give it a character of queer velocity of reading. Thinking of Sufism has led some of the poems to a supernatural world where a person finds peace in his /her heart. In many poems this merriment charms the readers. This is achievement of the writer.
A reader can easily feel that there is a flow of rhymes in Mustak Ahmed’s book. We hope, he will gradually shin in his upcoming books.
