The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry recommended continuing dredging in Mongla-Ghoshiakhali channel under the supervision of Water Development Board.
The recommendation was made on Thursday at the 26th meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its Chairman Maj (Retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
Committee members Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, M Abdul Latif, Ranajit Kumar Roy, M Anwarul Azim and Mamtaz Begum Advocate attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the overall activities of 23 land ports in the country and hoped that revenue income from those ports will increase with the rise in bilateral trade with neighboring India, Bhutan and Nepal following offering transit facilities to those countries.
The meeting also discussed construction of an international passenger terminal and bus terminal at Benapole land port and installing automation system at Benapole, Bhomra, Burimari and Akhaura land port.
Senior officials concerns were present at the meeting.
