UNB, Dhaka :
Accusing the government of running the country in a wrong way, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury on Friday urged it to implement the spirit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March 7 historic speech.
“The spirit of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March-7 epoch-making speech was against misrule and misdeeds…I request the Awami League government to carefully read Bangabandhu’s all speeches and take those into heart,” he said. Speaking at a human chain programme, Zafrullah further said no nation can progress by establishing a bureaucratic one-party rule Baksal. “Democracy is the only path for progress. Democracy means right of expression and allow people to take to the streets. The way you (govt) are running the country, is wrong.”
He urged the government to come to the right path and take steps for holding a fair and credible election. “There’s no disgrace to face a defeat in a fair way, and there’s no elegance to stay in power for long in a foul way.” Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged the programme in front of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) building demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
Speaking at the programme, BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury government sent their chairperson to jail to grab power again keeping people out of the election process. He said, the government is now attacking BNP leaders and activists and foiling its peaceful political programmes to spread panic among people so that they do not raise their voice for their rights.
