Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury announced a half-day general strike for March 28 in protest against the rising prices utility services and daily commodities such as edible oil, rice, lentils and onion.
He declared the program in a media call at the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the capital on Friday.
All political parties and people should observe the hartal peacefully from 6am till 12 noons on March 28, he said.
“Do not go out of the house that day. Even if you need to do so, do it to enforce the shutdown,” Dr Zafrullah said.
Gonosonghoti Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki extended support for the shutdown. He also announced a series of demonstrations in protest against price hike.
Left Democratic Alliance calls hartal
Meanwhile, Baam Gonotantrik Morcha (Left Democratic Alliance) also called a nationwide half-day hartal for March 28 over the same issue.
