Dr Towfiq Enam’s death, 3 sued

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday took the case into cognizance filed in connection with the death of Dr Mohammad Towfiq Enam.
The accused are- Professor Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil, Chairman of Hepatology Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), and two other physicians Professor Dr Abdul Wahab Khan, Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon of Islami Bank Central Hospital at Kakrail and Professor Dr Mohammad Ali, Hepatobiliary Surgeon of BRB Hospital of Kalabagan.
Senior Physiotherapist Akteruzzaman Mia, father of the victim, filed the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on Sunday. The Magistrate recorded the complainant’s statement and directed Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case through an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) or by an official of equal rank and submit the probe report to it by July 19.
In the complaint, Akteruzzaman said that the three physicians are responsible for the death of his son Dr Towfiq Enam.
He filed the case on June 15 with Kalabagan Police Station against the three accused, but police suggested him to file the case with the court, the case statement added.
