Padma Shri, in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The award was presented to Khatun by Indian High Commissioner to India Vikram K Doraiswami. She was chosen for the honour in 2021 for her contributions to the field of arts. Dr Khatun is one of the principal founders of Bangladesh Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha during thye Liberation War of 1971 and cultural group Chhayyanaut in early 1960’s. It was under her tutelage that Chhayanaut has grown into a world-renowned institute promoting classical music and dance.
