Detectives have been tasked with investigation of a case filed against JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury and some others over issuing fake Covid-19 test reports.
JKG chairman Sabrina Arif Chowdhury was taken to the DB office on Tuesday morning for questioning.
Initially, Tejgaon police inspector Hasnat Khandaker was investigating JKG’s forgery case.
He told one of the country’s leading media that Sabrina claimed that she was not involved in the coronavirus test scam.
However, he said they think that nothing happened in the JKG without her knowledge and she cannot avoid the responsibility for the corona test forgery as the chairman of the organisation.
JKG provided negative test reports to many people who had minor symptoms without conducting their samples.
The organisation used to collect over Tk 7 lakh every day by indulging in such fraudulence.
According to police, Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Sabrina Arif Chowdhury got involved in a conflict over the sharing of money they used to illegally earn every day.
In the end, Ariful gave Sabrina a cheque for Tk 5 lakh, but she turned down it, and sent a legal notice to her husband.
Sabrina repeatedly told police that she worked voluntarily for JKG and she initially did not know about the deceitfulness.
She also claimed that she moved away from JKG in the first week of June after getting information about it.
However, police are not convinced with her such statement.
Police said JKG was tasked with collecting samples in the first week of April, but they broke the contract with the DGHS within a short time by collecting samples in exchange for money.
IEDCR warned JKG in writing about the evil practice, but it continued such nefarious acts.
Meanwhile, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (ADG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said she also warned Sabrina’s husband and JKG Healthcare CEO Arif Chowdhury about it.
After receiving the information that JKG was collecting samples in exchange for money, Nasima said she verbally warned Arif.
The DG said she also cautioned Arif that DGHS would stop cooperating with JKG if they do not shun irregularities.
Nasima said it made Arif angry and he threatened her over telephone with a reference to the highest office of the state.
Sabrina was placed on a three-day remand on Monday in a case filed over deceiving people by giving false coronavirus test reports.
Earlier on Sunday, Sabrina was expelled from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases by the Health Ministry.
Sabrina was called to the Tejgaon DC office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for questioning on Sunday.
After the primary grilling, Sabrina was arrested.
On June 24, police arrested her husband and JKG Health Care CEO Ariful Chaudhury and four others from the capital for allegedly providing fake coronavirus test reports without carrying out any test.
A case was also filed against them in this regard.
