Dr Sabira murder Relatives decline to become plaintiff of case

No case has been filed so far in connection with the murder of a female doctor at her room at Kalabagan in the capital.
Police said no relative of Dr Sabira Rahman Lipi agreed to become plaintiff in her murder case showing various reasons. Subsequently, police might have to file the case after the expiry of a certain time-limit.
“Dr Sabira’s husband, Shamsuddin Azad, was requested to become the plaintiff of the case. But, he declined to become the plaintiff citing the suffering from various diseases including diabetes,” said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s New Market Zone’s assistant commissioner Sharif Mohammad Faruquzzaman.
Besides, a maternal uncle of Dr Sabira was also requested to become the plaintiff. “But, he also declined to accept the request citing that he lives outside Dhaka and has business there,” the police official said.
Sharif Mohammad Faruquzzaman also said Dr Sabira’s only son Tajoar is now an adult. He was also asked to become the plaintiff of the case. But, Dr Sabira’s mother gave her objection to the proposal, saying that the boy would leave the country for Canada for higher education soon. So, it would not be possible to make him the plaintiff.
Police said no relative has so far agreed to become the plaintiff in Dr Sabira murder case. If anyone doesn’t agree, a police personnel, equivalent to the rank of assstant sub-inspector, would subsequently lodge the case after the expiry of specific time-limit.
Meanwhile, four persons were picked up by police on Monday in Dr Sabira murder incident for questioning. They were the guard of the house where Dr Sabira was murdered, a young woman who lives in a room at the doctor’s flat, one of her friends, and the maid of the flat. Six to seven people live around the house were also questioned.
Kalabagan police along with the Detective Branch of police are investigating the murder incident.
The body of 47-year-old physician was recovered from her Kalabagan flat on Monday morning. Four wounds of a sharp knife on her neck and back were found.
Besides, there were burn injuries on her back.
Dr Sabira Rahman worked as Sonology Consultant at Green Life Hospital at Green Road in the capital.
Apart from Kalabagan police, officials of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Detective Branch of police after recovery of the body on Monday morning. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collected evidence from the place of occurrence.
Later, police officials said there were four marks of injuries on the left side of Dr Sabira’s neck and back. She might have been killed sometime after Sunday midnight. Later, her body was set ablaze to divert the murder to another direction. It left the back of her body partially burnt.
However, police could not say who committed the murder and why the murder was happened.
