Staff Reporter :The ruling party men attacked an Iftar party hosted in honour of BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at Polash upazila in Narsinydi district on Friday. At least 15 people were injured in the attack, while the ruling party men snatched about 1000 packets of Iftar items. According to the eyewitnesses, about 200 workers of ruling Awami League equipped with the lethal weapons attacked the Iftar function minutes before the Iftar time, and snatched the packets of Iftar items. BNP and its front bodies arranged the function on the premises of Tringa Girls’ High School under Danga Union of Polash upazila. Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan reached the venue at about 6:00 PM. Soon after his arrival, the ruling party men suddenly swooped on the leaders and workers of the BNP and other participants, leaving the 15 people injured. Some of the injured were sent to local hospitals, reports a correspondent. However, Moyeen Khan did not receive any injury, as the leaders and workers of the BNP saved him from the attack and brought him to the residence of Nurul Huda Miah of Santanpara village. The ruling party men also vandalised the podium ofthe Iftar programme. Officer-in-Charge of Polash Thana Abul Kalam Azad said that the local people attacked the function. Some ruling party men may be involved in the incident, he added.Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said that the terrorists of the ruling party attacked the Iftar function in barbaric way. “We protest and condemn the barbaric attack,” he said.
