Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed on Sunday with due respect commemorating the 26th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon during the 90s’ anti-autocratic movement.
Leaders and workers of different political parties and socio-cultural organisations paid rich tributes to Shaheed Milon by placing wreaths at his grave on the Dhaka Medical College campus, marking the day.
On this day in 1990, Dr Milon, the then joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), was shot dead by gunmen near TSC on the
Dhaka University campus on his way to a meeting against the then autocratic ruler HM Ershad.
Various socio-cultural and political organisations as well as professional bodies arranged various programmes, including discussion, milad mahfil, and offering fateha at his grave.
The leaders of Awami League, BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Workers’ Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and different professional bodies and Milon’s family members placed wreaths at his grave and offered fateha there.
They also organisations placed wreaths at the monument of Dr Milon near the Dhaka University’s TSC.
