The 24th anniversary of martyrdom of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon was observed with extensive programmes yesterday.
The programmes of the day included memorial meetings, Munajat, Milad and Doa mahfils and placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Milon.
Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and a teacher of Dhaka Medical College was killed on this day in 1990 as the goons of the then military junta opened gunshots on him near Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University at the penultimate period of the anti-autocracy movement.
Marking the day, the ruling Awami League
organised offering of Fateha, special prayers and placing of wreaths at Dr Milon’s grave on Dhaka Medical College campus in the morning.
At that time, Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Dr Dipu Moni, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and AL central working committee member Enamul Huq Shamim were present, among others.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) led by its president and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Workers’ Party led by its general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) led by its president Mujahidul Islam Selim, family members of Shaheed Milon, leaders of BMA, Shaheed Dr Milon Sangsad, Mahila Awami League, Awami Juba League, Chhatra League, Dhaka University unit of Chhatra League and other socio-cultural-professional bodies placed wreaths there.
Later, wreaths were also placed at the Shaheed Dr Milon Memorial at TSC of Dhaka University.
Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) organised a discussion at the grave of Dr Milon on Dhaka Medical College campus in observance of his 24th anniversary of martyrdom.
BMA president Prof Dr Mahmud Hasan presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Dr Milon’s mother Selina Akhter, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim, Ganatantri Party general secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, National Awami Party (NAP) general secretary Enamul Huq, director general of Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Huq and BMA secretary general Dr Iqbal Arsalan.
Besides, Bangabandhu Adarsha Bastabayan Sangsad organized a discussion at Bir Uttam Khwaza Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in observance of the day.
Vice-president of the Sangsad Ashraful Alam Chowdhury chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana and president of Kazi Aref Foundation Kazi Masud Ahmed.
