UNB, Dhaka :Claiming that Dr Mahbub Ullah came under attack for speaking the truth, president of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Monday urged professionals to be vocal against the assault.”We can’t allow blocking the practice of free thinking. All the professionals should come out on the streets to protest terrorist attacks on intellectuals,” he said. B Chowdhury, also a former president, came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion protesting the attack on ex-DU professor Mahbub Ullah arranged by Shata Nagarik Jatiya Committee at the Jatiya Press Club.Branding the attackers of Prof Mahbub Ullah as ‘Rat Force’, the BDB chief said all the professionals also should get united to face the ‘Rat Force’ of the ruling party in the interest of the country.”Mahbub Ullah is a teacher. Such an attack on him cannot be tolerated. The ‘Rats force’ who attacked him must be punished immediately,” he added.Unidentified miscreants attacked Prof Mahbub Ullah on the Supreme Court premises on Saturday. He came under the attack as he was leaving the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium after attending a book launching programme of BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed. The title of the book is ‘Bangladesh: Emergency and Aftermath: 2007-2008’Calling the attack a stigma for the nation, former Dhaka University VC Prof Emajuddin Ahmed demanded a fair investigation into the incident.Former chief election commissioner Abdur Rauf, BNP chairperson’s adviser Dr Osman Faruk, Dhaka University teacher Asif Nazrul, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Shawkat Mahmud and Jatiya Press Club general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed, among others, spoke at the programme.
