UNB, Dhaka :
Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain has demanded the government scrap the Digital Security Act instead of just amending it.
“We’re in favour of scrapping the law. It’s hurting our freedom of speech and freedom of thought. Our society should be made free from it,” said Dr Kamal.
He came up with the demand while responding to a question from a reporter at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on Saturday.
In a written statement, Dr Kamal said, “This detached government has enacted various black laws as a ploy to prolong its power by intimidating people. The Digital Security Act is part of that.’
Highlighting the current situation in the country, he said, “Freedom gained
with the blood of three million martyrs and the sacrifices of two million tortured mothers and sisters has taken a kneeling policy today. Instead of establishing democracy and the rule of law, a haven of corruption and misrule has been established [in the country]. “
Asked about the other faction of Gonoforum which was holding a separate program at the Press Club at the same time, he said, “Some people have left Gonoforum. Without them, we’re currently more united than ever.”
About the price hike of essentials, Dr Kamal said an ‘unholy syndicate’ of corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen is responsible for it and people need to get united against political mismanagement and plundering.
Gonoforum will launch a mass contact in Ramadan to create a unity among people based on the policies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq and Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.
