Jatiya Oikyafront leader and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain will not contest in the 11th parliamentary election.
Dr Kamal Hossain did not submit the nomination form to the Returning office by the deadline.
The party, however, submitted a list of 113 aspirants where Dr Kamal’s name was not found.
“Sir (Dr Kamal) is not going to join the election as his physical condition is not well. Barrister Sara is also not going to take part in the polls on personal grounds,” said Gono Forum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury on Wednesday.
Subrata Chowdhury, the Oikyafront leader as well, made the remarks after submitting his nomination paper for Dhaka-6 constituency to the Returning Officer around 1:30pm.
He, however, said Dr Kamal Hossain will be involved in election campaign in favour of the Jatiya Oikyafront. “Dr Kamal said that he would work for the alliance and keep necessary contributions to earn its victory in the election.”
He said that many of their party leaders primarily submitted nomination papers in many constituency across the country as they still could not settle the issue of seat sharing with BNP. “We’ll soon settle the issue.”
“We’re gradually becoming frustrated over election. The EC’s attitudes show they are going to hold a controversial election. They had a plan to stage another one-sided election that was held on 5 January 2014. We’ve created an election atmosphere by forming the Oikyafront,” he added.
To a question, he said that he did not see any worker and any leader of Jamaat-e-Islam in the Oikyafront.
