Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain on Thursday condemned the attack on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and called upon the Election Commission to take step against the attackers through investigation.
“Such type of attack at the early stage of the election campaign is sorrowful and condemnable,” Dr Kamal, also President of Gono Forum, a component of Oikyafront, told the media in his quick reaction.
The motorcade of Fakhrul came under attack at Danarhat in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila when he was meeting with some families of detained BNP leaders around 12:00noon.
The BNP leader went to his hometown on Thursday morning a day after the Election Commission opened the field for election campaign.
Terming the attack as heinous, Dr Kamal said the leaders and activists of all political parties will have to stay aside from using muscles power during the electioneering.
He also called upon the EC to take step against the attackers through investigation into the matter.
