Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) granted bail to Dr MA Hannan Feroz, former Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University in a case filed in connection with gun attack on Awami League Central Working Committee member AKM Enamul Haque Shamim.Judge Md Jahurul Haque of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court granted the bail after hearing. Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajal moved the bail petition on behalf of Dr Hannan.The hearing of the petition was held at about 10.30 am on Thursday and the court passed the order in the evening. Of the eight accused in the case, four made confessions in the case under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.On July 16 in the early hours, plain clothe police arrested Dr Hannan, who is the incumbent Chairman of the university’s Trustee Board from his residence in the city’s Dhanmondi area for his alleged involvement in the gun attack on Shamim, who was also a former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) chief.On July 23, he was sent to the jail, after eight days’ remand in two phases. On June 19, Enamul Haque Shamim came under the gun attack in front of Stamford University campus, Dhanmondi.On July 8, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested seven persons including two alleged masterminds, from the capital, Rajbari and Mymensingh on the charge of their involvement in the alleged attack.
