On being appointed by Abdul Hamid, the Chancellor of East West University (EWU), and President of Bangladesh, Prof Dr Fakrul Alam has joined as the Pro- Vice Chancellor of EWU from Sunday for the next four years. He is the 6th Pro- Vice-Chancellor of this University. Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and Prof M M Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, EWU welcomed Dr Alam at the University’s campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka on Sunday morning.
Before joining EWU, Dr Alam was Professor of the Department of English at University of Dhaka (DU). He has completed his B.A. and M. A. Degree from the Department of English at DU. Dr Fakrul has completed another masters degree from Simon Fraser University, Canada in 1980 and his PhD from the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1984.
Prof Alam is a renowned researcher and translator of the country. His research articles have been published in many national and international journals. The essential Tagore (Boston: Harvard UP and Viswa Bharati: Kolkata;2011 with Radha Chakravarty) is the one of the top publication.
Dr Alam received SARRC Literature Award in 2012 and Bangla Academy Award in 2013. He is also the translator of ‘Unfinished Memories’ by Bangabandhu and ‘Bishad Sindhu’ by Mir Mosharraf Hussain.
