A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced a private clinic caretaker to death for killing Dr Sazia Afrin Eva, 27, in the city’s Dakshin Khan area in 2012. Convict Faisal hails from Nokhili village under Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
On Wednesday noon, Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 handed down the verdict in presence of the convict. The judge examined the depositions of 15 witnesses out of 19 to pronounce the verdict.
The prosecution story says that Md Faisal, 30, who was a caretaker of Amtala BRAC Clinic, strangulated Dr Eva to death, a part-time physician, after
failure to violate her in her room of the clinic on November 29, 2012.
Dr Eva’s father Monirul Islam filed a case with the police station the following day.
On December 1 in 2012, police arrested Faisal from his maternal grandfather’s quarter in Brahmanbaria. The following day, he made confessional statement of killing Dr Eva. He gave the statement Under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
