Kochua Unit of Awami League leaders at a press conference held on Thursday afternoon at Chandpur Press Club premises demanded to retain and ensure former Home Minister Dr M K Alamgir MP’s nomination by cancelling his arch rival AL nominated candidate ex-NBR Chairman Golam Hossain for Chandpur -1 Constituency, Kochua. Otherwise, they have threatened, they will all resign.
Kochua Unit President Ayub Ali Patwary, in a written statement, has termed Golam Hossain ‘not a member of Awami League’.
Besides, he is completely an unknown man in Kochua as most people of Kochua do not know him as well. He has alleged, Golam Hossain is also an accused in killing, connected with Jamaat and BNP politics and a land grabber in Kochua. In his speech , Kochua Upazila Chairman Shahjahan Shishir has termed Golam Hossain as ‘an unknown person, let alone a politician, to the people in Kochua’. He added,, Golam Hossain has cheated the government of getting 25000 cr of taka as revenue from Basundhara Group in unfair means when he was chairman of NBR. So, for reward of that benefit, he added, the Daily Bangladesh Protidin and the Daily Kaler Kontho have published reports ‘tarnishing the fame and goodwill of MP Dr M K Alamgir’. They have blamed Golam Hossain for this report and accused him playing blame game. ‘So we are united with all AL men here to voice loudly against these activities of Golam Hossain’.
Upazila Awami League Unit General Secretary Sohrab Hossain Patwary, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Advocate Helaluddin, Vice Chairperson Salma Shahid, Chandpur Zilla Parishad Panel Chairman Raonak Ara Ratna, Kochua Municipal Mayor Nazmul Alam Swapon, among others, were present on the occasion.
Contacted, the AL nominated another candidate for 11th JS poll from Chandpur-1 constituency Kochua,, Golam Hossain has termed these allegations as false and baseless. He has told this correspondent that ‘I am a son of Kochua. I am known to all people in Kochua. I have been working relentlessly in Kochua for last few years and if we work sincerely forgetting our petty differences, I am sure, he strongly said, we’ll be able to come out with flying colours as an AL MP inshaallah from Chandpur-1 ,Kochua, seat’.
‘Let us work together instead of playing blame game to re-elect Sheikh Hasina as PM to enrich the country and lead the country to the path of prosperity.’
Earlier, a human chain was also arranged at Kochua against AL nominated candidate Golam Hussain violating the code of conduct of election.
It may be noted here that AL has given nominations to Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir MP and ex-NBR Chairman and Secretary Md Golam Hossain for Chandpur-1 Constituency, Kochua.
They both submitted their nomination forms in time to the Returning Officer and DC Chandpur.
