Tk 5cr due with 2 DCCs: DPDC warns to cut lines if payment not made by Dec

Dhaka Electricity Distribution Company (DPDC) has been an outstanding Tk 5 crore electricity bills with Dhaka North and South City Corporations.
The DPDC warned that it would cut all the two City Corporations’ power lines simultaneously in January next if they did not pay the bill by December.
DPDC on Monday heard a proposal to raise electricity prices at the TCB auditorium in the capital.
At the hearing, Consumers Association of Bangladesh’s (CAB’s) Energy Adviser Shamsul Alam asked how much money the DPDC due to the two city corporations.
According to the DPDC, it’s outstanding due with Dhaka North City Corporation Tk 64 crore and South City Corporation Tk 94 crore.
Then Shamsul Alam wanted to know why the electricity lines were not cut even though there was a large amount of outstanding?
In response, DPDC Executive Director (Operations) ATM Haroon-or-Rashid said, “We have written to the two city corporations for payment of arrears and give time till December.”
He said, “If electricity bills are not paid within the stipulated time, then all their power lines will be cut in January next.”
Meanwhile, the technical committee of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has recommended that fund for consumers’ security should be kept in a separate account and the interest from it should be returned to the subscribers. The recommendation was made at the power price hiking hearing committee of the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC).
Commission Chairman Monowar Islam, Commission Member Mizanur Rahman and others were present in the hearing.
