The Acting President of Dhaka Mohanagar Awami League M A Aziz has not paid electricity bills of his business farm for last three years.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) summoned him on November 29 to take part in a hearing in this regard. M A Aziz, owner of M/S S A Hossain, did not pay electricity bills from October 2012 to October 2015. As a result, about Tk 73 lakh has remained unpaid.
DPDC said in its notice that you (MA Aziz) are not paying electricity bills despite repeated notices. It is a punishable offence for violating the government’s order and evading the state revenue.
“Why should we not disconnect your electricity connection, file a case against you and confiscate your property immediately,” said in the letter.
Replying to a question, MA Aziz said, “We talked with DPDC. It is a business establishment and, therefore, bills for three years may remain pending.”
He also said, “My son takes care of the business. Whatever happens there, I have to look into it.”
The Managing Director of DPDC Brigadier General (ret) Md Nazrul Hasan has confirmed the matter to The New Nation last night saying that an official would look into the matter.
