More than 10-hour long monsoon downpour paralysed normal life in Barisal city on Saturday.
River communication disrupted with different areas and people demanded construction of town protection dam, excavating the canals and introducing sustainable scientific drainage and swearage systems to solve waterlogging problem in the city.
Barisal River Port authourity suspened operations of ML ( less than 65-feet long) water transports on the river routes from this port since 8:00 AM Saturday morning, informed Md. Shahidullah, Barisal river port officer and deputy director Bangladesh Inland water Transport Authority.
The action was taken after weather signal no. 2 hoisted in the port form Saturday morning and will cntinue till improvement of the weather condition, the BIWTA official said.
Barisal citizens faced low to mid rainfall started from Saturday early morning and continued till this report with breaks and the city sky was covered by deep cloud without sunlight whole the day.
Most of the people on Saturday became bound to confine themselves inside the room as transports became scarce on city roads demanding higher-fare from the passengers, after visiting the city areas found.
Make shift shops, hawker markets remained close in most of the parts of the day and kitchen markets facing very few customers as people not coming out from home without emergency needs.
The drainage system in the city was cleaned on last month to face the situation and improve the condition during heavy monsoon rain.
