Staff Reporter :The government has slapped an indefinite ban on riding passengers on the motorbikes until further notice. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a circular in this regard, signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, on Thursday.According to the circular, the ban has been imposed Under Section 88 of the Motorcycle Act, 1983, and made effective with immediate effect.The directives of the government came following petrol bomb attack by the miscreants amid political turmoil in the country. Some co-riders sitting behind the motorcycle drivers were allegedly involved in throwing bombs on different vehicles.Several people were killed and score others burnt in petrol bomb attacks on buses during the ongoing blockade programme called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.It is to be noted that the authorities imposed the same restriction on carrying second or third rider on a motorcycle on December 29, 2013.
