Dope test for job applicants soon

A provision for ‘dope tests’, or drug tests will be included within medical check up requirement soon, fothokszr joining both government and private jobs.
Protection Service Secretary of the Home Ministry Fariduddin Chowdhury came up with the remark while addressing as the chief guest at a workshop on “Implementation of Action Plan to Counter the Aggression of Drug Abuse” organized by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) at a city hotel on Sunday, reports UNB.
He also said that their work is ongoing to amend the DNC Act 1990 and a proposal has already been given to increase the manpower of the DNC.
The Protection Service Secretary emphasized on working together of Education, Health and Information Ministries to control drug abuse.
Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benzir Ahmed in his speech suggested that the death sentence is the only punishment for drug offence.
If necessary retired judges might be appointed on contractual basis for trial of drug related cases specifying a court in each district, he added.
He also said that separate jail should be constructed for keeping prisoners of drug-related cases so that they can be rehabilitated properly after their release.
The DG Rab also underscored the need for random dope tests for citizens in various settings, alongside dope tests as part of application process for jobs, and in educational institutions.
DG of the DNC Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed, who chaired the workshop, said although the DNC has been conducting anti-narcotics activities, these are boie not much visible due to lack of its action plan.
There are only 650 personnel to conduct operational activities, he said.
He claimed that remarkable changes have occurred in the department in last one year.
Among others, DG Coast Guard Rear Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, Advocate Abdul Based Mujumder, Prof Dr Arup Ratan Chowdhury and Additional Dg of Border Guard Bangladesh Brig Gen Md Anisur Rahman also spoke at the workshop.
