Accusing the government of resorting to widespread repressive acts to prevent its sure fall, BNP on Tuesday asked the ruling party to refrain from initiating any civil war in the country.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed said, “We ask the government to stop its evil efforts to unleash a civil war in the country. Or else, you’ll be held responsible for any evolving situation.”
Repression and suppression have been the last-resort weapons for this feeble regime thanks to the controlled judiciary and repression by the police, he said adding that all efforts of the 14-praty alliance to cling to power will turn out to be unsuccessful.
Salauddin once again urged the government to take steps for arranging an acceptable election under a non-party administration to save the nation and the country from the looming serious uncertainty. Other wise, he warned, the nation will not forgive the government if any undemocratic and radical forces emerge in the country.
The BNP leader said they have come to know that the government is trying to remove the opposition-backed elected mayors of different city corporations from their posts. “It’s nothing new in Awami democracy. Rather, it’s part of Awami League’s political programme for implementation of Baksalism (one-party rule).
Referring to media reports, he said police caught Chhatra League leaders Scissor, Sohanur Rahman and Joy red-handed at Puthia in Rajshahi while carrying out a petrol bomb attack.
Claiming that the ruling party cadres are involved in subversive acts, Salauddin urged the government to return to the path of democracy shunning naked conspiracies. “Quit power accepting mass demand for the sake of continuation of the march of democracy.”
